Constitutional Connection: Article 1, The Legislative Branch, Section 8, Clause 5
“The Congress shall power to coin money.”
Explanation of Connection:
Two people were caught with counterfeit money. One man was arrested for passing a counterfeit $50 bill. The other man was arrested for being with the man. Counterfeiting money is a federal crime. Only the government can print money.
This article demonstrates Article 1, Section 8, Clause 5 of the United States Constitution. This article shows that people go to jail for printing money. There is only national currency and only Congress has the power to print this currency. There was a similar problem under the Articles of confederation that brought the United States to its knees in debt. Therefore the Constitution was needed to fix this.
Without this section of the United States Constitution, the same thing would happen again. I wouldn’t want to live in a society like that. Almost everyone would be poor and money would be worthless due to inflation. That’s why counterfeiting money is and should be a crime. If everyone made their own money, it would be the same stuff all over again.
